Skin redness and flushing of the face, neck and chest is very common. It can be frustrating and cause significant social embarrassment. The good news is, it’s highly treatable with the right plan in place.

Expert advice, skin care, medical therapies (if necessary) and laser are all very effective treatment options for redness and flushing.

What causes skin redness & flushing?

Common causes include:

  • Rosacea.
  • Sun damage: This is mostly on the face but for many people is also very noticeable on the neck and chest.
  • Keratosis pilaris: This occurs in younger people and if often associated with rough skin on the sides of the cheeks and upper arms.

Often it can be a combination of these problems. Many people can see tiny red blood vessels which become visible over time, these are called capillaries and when large and dilated are often called broken capillaries. The medical term is telangiectasia. They are most common on the cheeks and around the nose.

Some people have flushing as their main problem without persistent redness. Often they can benefit from medical therapies (oral medications) combined with laser treatment.

It is patient dependant, however most people require between 2-4 treatments. Some problems, such as keratosis pilaris can be more stubborn and therefore, requires more sessions. This will be discussed with you in further detail during a consultation.
