We offer laser hair reduction treatments using medical-grade laser technology. These treatments are performed by trained dermal therapists who hold current laser safety certification and work under the guidance of our specialist dermatologists.
Suitability for laser hair reduction depends on factors such as skin type, hair colour, and medical history. A consultation is required to assess your needs, explain the process, and discuss potential risks and expected outcomes.
Laser hair reduction is a procedure that uses light-based technology to target hair follicles. The laser emits a beam of light that is absorbed by melanin (pigment) in the hair, which may impair the follicle’s ability to grow new hair.
Laser hair reduction is generally more effective on darker hair, as lighter hair types (such as grey, blonde, red or white) may not absorb the laser energy as effectively. The number of treatments and results can vary between individuals.
At our clinic, laser hair reduction is performed by trained practitioners using medical-grade equipment. Your practitioner will assess your skin and hair type to determine whether this treatment is appropriate for you.
The hair growth cycle consists of three stages: the growing (anagen) phase, transition (catagen), phase and resting (telogen) phase. The laser works by impairing the hair follicles which are in the growing phase. Not all hairs are in this phase at the same time, therefore several treatments are needed. The number of sessions and intervals vary depending on the hair growth cycles specific to the different parts of the body, which is discussed, in depth, during your consultation.
Laser hair reduction (LHR) is not suitable for everyone. At our clinic, this service is offered for cosmetic purposes to individuals aged 16 years and over.
In some medically indicated cases, treatment may be considered for younger individuals under the guidance of a specialist dermatologist. This may apply when certain health conditions such as polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS), pilonidal sinus, chronic ingrown hairs, or visible skin changes from grafts or birthmarks – contribute to unwanted or excess hair, and other removal methods are not appropriate.
In all cases, treatment begins with a consultation to determine suitability and discuss individual needs. A full assessment by a qualified practitioner is required before proceeding.
Many people describe the sensation of laser hair reduction as feeling like a flick of a rubber band against the skin. It is common to experience warmth or tingling immediately after the procedure. These sensations usually resolve over a short period, but responses can vary between individuals.
Discomfort, if present, may be managed with the use of a cold compress. Our team can provide icepacks to assist with comfort after your appointment if required.
Unprotected sun exposure and fake tan application must be avoided for a minimum of 3 weeks prior to treatment, and throughout your entire treatment course. If there is suntan, sun burn or fake tan present on the skin, treatment cannot be performed. If you believe your skin is sun exposed, please contact us to reschedule your session. If you present to your session and treatment cannot go ahead, you will be charged a $50 fee.
Do not remove hair from the roots – waxing, threading, plucking. You can shave to manage hair growth in between sessions. The laser needs hair in the follicle to work effectively.
Do not bleach the hair in the treatment area.
Shave the hair in the treatment area, ideally the day before your appointment.
Arrive to your appointment with clean skin on the treatment area – no makeup, fake tan, deodorant, moisturiser or sunscreen.
The cost of LHR depends on the area treated, and how many areas are being treated in one session. During your initial consultation you will be provided with a treatment plan which will include a financial quote.
