How our team can help you improve the appearance of your skin.
Inflamed pimples, closed comedones, solar comedones, milia and ingrown hairs can be removed with extraction therapy. At our clinic, this treatment is performed by our experienced dermal and nursing team. We assess the skin and areas of concern, perform the treatment if appropriate, and discuss ways you can prevent reoccurrence with correct skin care. This can be a stand alone treatment, or combined with LED light therapy to reduce redness and assist with healing. In all cases, a consultation is required first so you can be properly assessed and have opportunity to discuss the treatment.
Extractions for Acne and Comedones:
Acne is a skin condition that requires correct diagnosis and treatment. As a Dermatology clinic, we always address the acne first and ensure this is being treated correctly. Extraction therapy is recommended in conjunction with other treatment methods to help reduce the appearance of inflamed pimples, and help clear congestion in the skin. If you are currently undergoing treatment for your acne, or if you only experience a break out now and again, extraction therapy may be a good option for you.
Extractions for Milia:
A milium cyst is a small, white bump that typically appears on the nose, cheeks and eye area. These cysts are often found in groups, which is called milia. Extraction therapy is an effective method for removing milia. We gently remove the head of the cyst, and extract the contents. Correct skin care is key to prevent reoccurrence of milia, which we will discuss with you during your treatment.
Extractions for Ingrown Hairs:
Depending on the severity, ingrown hairs can be removed with extraction therapy. We assess the area to ensure it is appropriate for treatment, if we don’t believe it can be safely and comfortably removed with extraction therapy, we will refer you to one of our doctors for further advice.
How long is a treatment session?
We allow 30-45 minutes for extraction therapy. If treating a large area, clients have the option to have numbing cream applied 1 hour prior to assist with comfort during the treatment. The cream can be applied in clinic, or at home.
How often is treatment recommended?
This varies, but generally speaking, we recommend having extraction therapy every 2-4 weeks depending on the skin condition and treatment plan. In some cases, extraction therapy is a once-off treatment, or is only needed if the skin condition represents or flares.
