Medical training and achievements:
Dr Seamus McWhirter obtained his Doctor of Medicine (M.D) degree from the University of Melbourne in 2016, where he graduated with Distinction. Prior to this, he worked as a registered pharmacist, developing a detailed knowledge of prescription and over the counter medicines. Before commencing his specialty dermatology training, he worked as a hospital doctor from 2017 to 2021. This included working as a medical registrar and supervising junior doctors.
Dr McWhirter then completed dermatology specialist training (four years) across hospitals such as the Royal Melbourne Hospital, Royal Children’s Hospital, Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre, Northern and Eastern Health and St Vincent’s. He has published articles in peer reviewed journals on topics including naevi, melanoma and eczema. In addition to private practice, Dr McWhirter holds a consultant dermatologist position at Western Health where he is involved in the teaching of dermatology trainees.
