Common reasons for earlobe repair

Earlobes may change in appearance or become damaged over time due to:

  • Long-term wear of heavy earrings
  • Accidental tearing from earrings or trauma
  • Changes in tissue integrity associated with age.

A comfortable, in-clinic procedure under local anaesthetic

Earlobe reduction or repair is conducted under local anaesthetic at our Sunbury skin clinic. The anaesthetic ensures the area is numb throughout the procedure.

This form of minor skin surgery is typically well-tolerated and completed in a single session.

What to expect during earlobe repair surgery

The surgical process involves:

  • A small incision in the earlobe
  • Removal of any damaged tissue
  • Reconstruction of the earlobe using fine sutures
  • Supportive closure to encourage healing and minimise visible scarring.

Our goal is to maintain symmetry and proportion where possible.

Earlobe repair

Re-piercing included

Many patients would like to continue wearing earrings, so we offer re-piercing as part of your aftercare.

You need to wait 3 months after your earlobe repair surgery to allow the tissue to fully heal. At that point, please contact us to book your re-piercing. Medical-grade earrings are required for the re-piercing process, which you will need to purchase prior.

Consultation and referral process

All patients require a referral from a GP and must attend a pre-procedure consultation. This enables our doctors to determine if the surgery is right for you and gives you a chance to ask questions and decide if you wish to proceed.

Informed financial consent is important. Treatment pricing can vary depending on individual needs. You will receive a quote before you decide whether to go ahead with the surgery.
