Anti-wrinkle injections

Our injectors offer advanced techniques to deliver outstanding results for the treatment of facial ageing, headaches, jaw clenching, facial slimming and skin texture.

What is an anti-wrinkle injection?

Anti-wrinkle injections using Botulinum toxin A is a very successful treatment for facial lines and wrinkles. It can also be used as a preventative measure to slow down signs of ageing, or used in combination with dermal filler for full-face rejuvenation.

How does it work?

Anti-wrinkle injections are derived from a bacterial toxin and acts as a neuromuscular blocking agent. This means, when it’s injected directly into a muscle, it prevents activation and contraction of that muscle. It is delivered by injection directly into the muscle and works only in the muscle into which it is injected. It’s not a permanent treatment, the muscle repairs over time and movement will return. Repeat treatments are required if you wish to maintain results.

What can anti-wrinkle injections be used for?

Skin wrinkles: Upper facial movement lines, including the frown line, forehead lines and crow’s feet. Can be used to soften existing lines, or prevent deeper lines occurring.

Lower face: Below the mouth and chin area to reduce the downturn of the mouth and soften a prominent chin. In the neck, it can be used to soften the neck bands and smooth the surrounding skin.

Jaw clenching and Bruxism (teeth grinding): Many people have hypertrophic masseter muscles, either as part of their normal anatomy or these muscles may be enlarged by excessive teeth grinding or clenching, known as bruxism. With habitual teeth grinding, the masseter muscles become larger and overdeveloped.

People who suffer from bruxism often report daily headaches, ear, jaw and facial pain, worn down/broken teeth and other dental problems. They suffer from daily pain and discomfort which has previously only been treated with special splints and physiotherapy. Injecting Botulinum toxin A into the masseter muscle is a very effective treatment option for teeth grinding.

Facial slimming: In patients with masseter hypertrophy (enlarged jaw muscle), treatment may result in a slimmer facial shape.

Migraines and tension headaches: Relief may be achieved with treatment to the forehead and temple muscles.

Excessive underarm sweating: Treating the sweat glands under the arms may significantly reduce sweating for up to 6 months. A Medicare rebate is available for this treatment with a valid referral.

What does the treatment involve?

You will begin with a consultation with one of our experienced injectors, who will carry out a thorough facial/skin assessment and discuss the treatment with you in detail. Together, you will formalise a treatment plan and if you are happy to proceed, treatment can be performed on the day.

The treatment itself will only take 5-10 minutes and the injections are usually very well tolerated. There is no downtime associated with anti-wrinkle injections, you may experience mild bruising and tenderness around the injection sites. You will be provided with aftercare to take home.

The injections takes up to 2 weeks to take full effect and will last 3-4 months on average. At this point, the treatment is repeated if desired.
